Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed two gay rights bills

this picture was taken from scrapetv.comCalifornia Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed two gay-rights bills by Sen. Mark Leno before midnight last Sunday — one granting Harvey Milk and another granting same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Milk was California’s first openly gay elected official who was shot to death, along with San Francisco’s mayor, by a former city supervisor in 1978. His birthday was May 22.

Last year, the governor disapproved the measure declaring May 22 a state day of recognition for Harvey Milk, suggesting that the former San Francisco supervisor be honored locally. But in the end, he named him to the California Hall of Fame.

And the second bill (same sex marriage), according to the California Governor, it would “provide the same legal protections that would otherwise be available to couples that enter into civil unions or domestic partnerships out of state.
